FOSTER’S BEER COMMERCIAL
Mike was hired as a boat driver for a Foster’s Beer advertisement in the early 1990s. The real skier that was hired to ski on a paddle was having a hard time getting up, so Mike had to show him how to do it. Mike did so well on the paddle and his Air Chair that he was asked to replace original skier as the “hero” in the final scene at the bar. Check it out…

 

 

BIG AIR WORLD CHAMPION – 1998
The MasterCraft Flight Worlds of Hydrofoiling featured the world’s best riders. One of the most anticipated event was the Air Boom Big Air Competition with riders getting 3 chances to ride away from their highest leap. At age 50 Mike took the gold with a leap of 19′.

CRAZY FLIP OVER DOCK – 1993
A TV crew came to film for an old show called “Burnt Toast” on Prime Ticket (hosted by the Bachelor’s Chris Harrison). Mike, ever the showman decided it was a good time to try flipping his Air Chair over the 4′ wide starting dock on the Canyon Lake slalom course. The run up was short, and the landing was even tighter, but Murph pulled off this dangerous but impressive move.

 

 

BEST BOAT BALLAST – 2012
Thousands of Pounds in Under 5 Seconds with NO PUMPS!
Murph has been at the forefront of integrated ballast systems for ski boats. His breakthrough design, the PureVert (US Patent # 6234099) was put on the Calabria “Cal Air” in 2000. The FATHER OF HOT DOGGING
A cable TV crew came to the Long Beach Marine Stadium in 1992 to film a feature on hot dog water skiing. The Master was in the house to give insight to how he gave birth to the sport in the 1970s.

 

 

AQUA SKIPPER, HUMAN POWERED HYDROFOIL – 2012
When Mike’s neighbor on Canyon Lake brought home an Aqua Skipper (human powered hydrofoil), it wasn’t long before Mike was coming up with new tricks and making equipment modifications. Mike became a dealer and popularized the new ride. Mike’s nephew Tony Klarich and Ron “Air Boom” Stack joined Mike to create a list of tricks never seen before.

 

 

HO SPORTS COMMERCIAL – 1986
When Herb O’Brien wanted to shoot his first promotional video for his new company HO Sports, Mike was one of his first calls. Murphy’s expertise as a showman and experience with media shoots made him the perfect pick. Mike gathered his nephew Tony Klarich and Colorado River Rat Mike Mack to head to Florida for the shoot. The film crew wondered why these non-traditional skiers came all the way from the West Coast when there ware plenty of skiers right there in Florida. Mike and company stole the show with their precision teamwork and riding.

 

 

MARY MURPHY ON INSIDE EDITION – 1995
Mike taught his mother to ride the Air Chair when she was 75 years old. The move turned out to be a great promotion for Air Chair (Mike’s company), showing people around the world that anyone could ride the sit-down hydrofoil. Mike and his mom upped the promotional ante when he decided to pull her to Catalina Island off the coast of Long Beach, CA. The open ocean trip of 52- miles became a yearly event for Mary, who completed the passage 8 more times in here 80s. Mary’s amazing riding scored tons of TV and magazine coverage including this appearance.

 

 

HYDROFOIL BIKE RIDE – 2009
Mike got the call from a production company for a TV commercial “proof of concept”. The mission was to get a bike to fly using a hydrofoil attached to the bottom of the frame. Mike acting as driver and coordinator called on his nephew Tony Klarich to be the “crash test dummy”. Over the course of 4 days Mike and Tony came up with yet another entirely new way to ride.
